What will we leave behind?

I was watching a show on HGTV today called If Walls Could Talk about antiques people find in their homes. It made me wonder what people are going to consider "antiques" from our generation. Do we have distinctive items that will stand out from our generation? What will people remember about us?

I think about all the paintings and handcrafted furniture that people have from the turn of the century. Old war uniforms. Invitations from people of note. Original china sets and Tiffany lamps. Maybe I'm not an expert on fine furniture and home furnishings, but I wonder if we make anything like that anymore that would be as valuable. We have the modern convenience of machine assembly that diminishes the need to make a lot of things by hand, so what's going to be so special about a factory made dining room table in a hundred years? Now I'm sure there must be some areas of the U.S. that still have handmade items, but it seems like a dying practice.

It's all just interesting to think about. What things will cease to exist a hundred years from now that we may think is very much common today, but will be rare to them? Wonder what we'll leave behind...
