Embracing the green initiative

I've recently become interested in salvaging glass bottles and jars for storage purposes instead of throwing them away. So far I've saved a pickle jar, a spaghetti sauce Mason jar, and a champagne bottle! I had actually been saving the two jars for a while and almost threw them away. Instead I Googled how to remove the paper labels from them and now I am obsessed with finding new jars!! It's so easy too. Here's how to remove labels:

1. Soak bottles and jars in hot water for at least an hour making sure the label to be removed is completely submerged.

2. Using a butter knife, carefully scrape as much of the paper label off as you can.

3. Rub food safe oil (ie olive oil, canola oil, etc.) on any sticky areas remaining from label. You don't need too much. A little goes a long way!

4. Lightly scrub with a non-metal scrubby sponge using a circular motion.

5. Rinse bottle/jar.

6. Wash in the dishwasher or hand as needed!

I plan to eventually store all of my pantry items in recycled jars. What a neat way to organize your pantry for free!
