Home Sweet Palatine!

We got the place!!

This morning Alan and I met with our prospective landlords and our realtors and we ended up signing the lease right then and there!

It was funny because this morning both Alan and I got a listing sent to us from other realtors that we've been in contact with while searching for a place to move. I guess a new rental went on the market and 2 separate realtors sent us the listing. it was really nice, but a bit more expensive than the Palatine one. I wondered if this was a sign or something. Either the Palatine place wasn't going to work out or the devil was trying to place the spirit of doubt in our minds.

Alan said all we could do was meet the people renting the townhouse and see how it goes. We went in there thinking that we were going to at least spend a day thinking about our decision. But, we had such a great meeting with the couple renting their place that I think we all felt comfortable enough to just sign the lease! We're both really happy about it and it's a great location that is near to everything we could possibly want (Metra, Whole Foods, Jewel, Petsmart, Bank of America, Walgreens, etc!) If only it were a bit closer to Trinity for Alan's work, but hopefully he'll be able to find an alternative route that won't take him too long to get there.

Only other surprise was that we're paying a pro-rated amount for June 15th- June 30th and our elase officially starts July 1st. Karen had mentioned that to me when we talked, butI guess I forgot about it and/or Karen and I didn't communicate that to Alan properly. It's an extra $720 on top of 2 month's rent and the pet deposit. So, we're going to have a LOT of money getting pulled out of our bank account in the next month or two. Not to mention our current landlords are being stubborn and won't let us leave early without paying $1000 for the 15 days of July that make up our lease. It's frustrating. At the very least I wish they could have been reasonable enough to only make us pay half a month's rent since 15 days is half a month, but they didn't agree. I would hope in the future, if we are ever in the position they are and have renter's who have spent 2 years in our place and need to get out 15 days early we wouldn't make them pay for days they won't be occupying the house. It just irks me because they know our situation and don't understand why they couldn't be more reasonable. Grr. Well, I'm glad we won't have to deal with them for much longer.

So, June 15th is the first day we can move in and get the keys and do a walk-through. Still not sure how we're going to do the whole moving process. Not in one day. We'll probably spend a good amount of time bringing smaller boxes and things over and then rent a truck for the big stuff one day on the weekend leading up to our last day in Chicago.

It's bittersweet leaving our house now. We stayed here 2 years. Though we are both more than ready to get out of here I think we're going to really miss the neighborhood. I think I'll miss it because it was the first house we lived in together after being married. Like a new chapter of our life is beginning. I know we didn't own the house, but it's still bittersweet! Hopefully within the next few years we can start thinking about buying our own home and possibly starting a family! We'll see...so glad we found a place though!
