Today is Tuesday, and going along with the idea of themes, I decided that Tuesdays were going to be devoted to "time." Time Machine Tuesdays, if you will. The idea is to think of a specific time in the past (or future, I suppose!) to reflect on and share.
Well...with the aid of old online journals I went searching for a journal entry from a year ago to see what was going on in my head then. Unfortunately, a year ago I had been out of touch with my blogging and there was nothing even in the month of July written. I went back another year. Nothing. And another. Still nothing. I went all the way back to 2005 to finally find something written in the month of July. July 29th. I was moving out of my first college apartment.
"A lot of memories were shared in my little apartment, and now that I'm leaving it, it makes me realize that's all they are now...memories. Thoughts that will slowly fade through time."
Julys are always smack dab in the middle of transitioning periods in life. Apparently, over the last 5 years I was too caught up in it all to write about it. But here I was, July 29th, 2005...in between summer doldrums and on the brink of starting a new chapter in my life. I was agonizing over my first break-up not sure where life was going next, except that I was excited to be moving to the same complex as one of my new college friends and would be spending more time with her.
As I got over the initial shock of my break-up I remember telling myself how weird it was that I'd most likely be married or at least with the person I was going to marry within the next 5 years. Well, it's been 5 years since that day and I've been happily married to my husband for almost 2 years now.
You know what else is funny? The friend I was excited about getting to spend more time with, well, we had quickly become really close friends, but towards the end of our college years had somewhat of a falling out. Well, a few days ago I had written to her as part of my decision to "renew myself." Today, I finally received a response from her and have been able to officially shut the door on the part of my life that I had been carrying with me in regret for how things had turned out. I'm even happy to say that our relationship might even start fresh!
Yes, my times in college, good and bad, are all but memories now. But, the bad ones don't necessarily have to stay that way. It's up to me how I will be affected and my decision what to do with them.
"I suppose with ends also comes beginnings to be more optimistic about this whole thing."
It just goes to show you that life can come full circle if you are open to it!
What transitions are you going through in your own life?
