I felt a bit uninspired this week for my Time Machine Tuesday. I was watching the show I Survived... on the Biography channel and had something else in mind to write about, but a) I didn't have my hand-written journals to refer to and b) it might have been a bit too intense of a subject.
So, I decided to write about something else that I was actually just thinking about last night. It involves Alan and I going out on a limb. You see, just a year ago around this time, Alan's 9 month period of unemployment finally ended. It was a rough road. He found a job in the admissions office of a seminary that we both attended for a while. I couldn't help but think that the sole purpose of us attending that school was to give Alan that job opportunity.
Six months prior to him receiving the job, we weren't even sure if we were going to make it to the end of January. We had started making plans as to what we would do if we had to move from Chicago back to Florida - something neither of us wanted to do. But we realized that we had been struggling for 4 months without letting anyone know we needed help. So, we reached out to our old church and asked for prayers and if anyone had any leads for job opportunities in the area. Several days later, we received an unexpected surprise in the mail. The church decided to support us monetarily with a donation to help out with some extra expenses! Looking back, it wasn't a large sum of money, but it helped us get over a hump. We were determined to make it work and try the best that we could before throwing in the towel.
So, now, a year later Alan not only still works in the admissions office, but will be starting a new job as an admissions counselor in 2 weeks! We still have our ups and downs financially and sometimes we're not sure where the money is going to come from, but it always seems to work out somehow. We look forward to the day when we're back to being financially independent, our debt is paid off, and we not only don't have to worry about where the money is coming from, but have money in the bank that's safely tucked away for a rainy day.
God is ever faithful and I know He is taking care of us. Sometimes we just have to trust Him even when we're not sure where we're going.
Now it's my turn to be unemployed and Alan has had several potential new job opportunities come his way - some didn't pan out and some we still don't know if anything is to come of them. Regardless of what happens, I'm confident that God has a hand in it and that brings me contentment and excitement to see how our patience will be rewarded!
"Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." ~~ Proverbs 3:3-6
